My grandmother gave me some beautiful wool fabric recently. The tartan came from travels in Scotland with my grandfather, and the solid red came from the Biltmore in North Carolina. I decided to make a couple of warm skirts for England!

It is rare that I create something I’ve done before or am fully confident will turn out perfectly. That idea holds true here. I did not use a pattern for either skirt but made a muslin template, then finagled darts and finishing. I’m happy with the plaid matched to the sides (though not the waistband, oh well). Lining the red skirt in muslin worked nicely, too!

I am looking forward to bringing these skirts with me to England and keeping warm with thoughts of my loving grandparents every time I put them on!
